The appointment is being made at a time when the NAV financing market is growing in size and importance among private equity GPs and LPs
17Capital, the global go-to source of strategic financing for investors in private equity, today announces the appointment of Alejandro Hernandez to the new position of Head of Investor Relations (“IR”), Canada and Latin America. He will be based in Edmonton, Canada and work closely with 17Capital’s team in London and New York.
Alejandro has over 20 years of investment experience and joins 17Capital from Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) where he spent over 8 years, most recently, as a Portfolio Manager in Public Equities. During his tenure at AIMCo, Alejandro led the development of a proven process to successfully partner with external managers and spearheaded AIMCo’s investment in various non-traditional hedge fund strategies.
Alejandro Hernandez commented: “I am very pleased to be joining 17Capital at a time when the NAV financing market is growing in size and importance among private equity GPs and LPs. I am looking forward to leveraging my previous experience to support the firm’s strategic growth, manage relations and fundraising across its preferred equity and credit strategies, as well as syndication of co-investments in Canada and Latin America.”
Prior to that, Alejandro spent 12 years at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP). He started in the Performance Analytics team where he was responsible for performance measurement and developing attribution models. He then moved to the Public Equities division where he started as an Analyst before being promoted to an Assistant Portfolio Manager responsible for external managers, overlays and a quantamental strategy. Key successes included the expansion of the external managers program into Brazil and China and OTPP’s first direct investment in Colombia.
Pierre-Antoine de Selancy, Managing Partner at 17Capital commented: “We are excited for Alejandro to join our Investor Relations team. Investors are our top priority. Alejandro is a great addition to our team as we strive to be a strategic partner to institutional investors. Canada has long been an important market for 17Capital. Alejandro’s permanent presence and experience there will be vital to attend to the needs of our existing investors and prospects, while Latin America is a relatively underserved market which we believe can benefit from our products.”
